University "Diversity" Across the U.S
U.S News & World Report recently did a study in September 2013 by collecting data from universities around the country that represented the different number of racial and ethnic backgrounds represented at their schools. According to their research, it has become an increasingly important quality to college-bound students that the school they attend contains a wide range of diversity. From the statistics the U.S News gathered, they calculated each university's diversity index scored based on a range from 0.0 to 1.0. The closer a school's index score is to 1.0, the more likely you are to run into a student from a different racial, ethnic, or cultural background. The results were divided based on region.
One school from each region is represented below with their indicated diversity index score. From there, the pictures and statements were obtained from each university's website to compare how accurately each school represented their "diverse" populations. It is important to be aware of how a college or university portrays themselves in relation to their range of diversity. As one can see below, the statistics found clearly show the misrepresentation universities present through their websites, pictures, and statements.
